One township, several kinds of chimney
Roxbury is large and varied. The township dates to 1740 and takes in Kenvil, Landing, Ledgewood, Lower Berkshire Valley and Port Morris, each with housing from a different period. The Township of Roxbury handles permits and local information for all of them.
Landing sits at the foot of Lake Hopatcong and shares the lake's stock of older cottages and converted seasonal homes. Port Morris grew around the railroad. Ledgewood and Kenvil hold many houses from the township's long twentieth-century expansion.
For a sweep, that means arriving ready for anything from a fieldstone fireplace with a clay-tile flue to a factory-built fireplace with a metal chimney. Each needs its own brush, and the wrong one either leaves deposits behind or damages the liner. The first job on site is always to identify what the chimney actually is.
