Country properties and wood heat in Andover
Andover is two places. The township was incorporated in 1864, and the small borough at its centre separated from it in 1904. Andover Township covers the surrounding countryside, which includes Lake Aeroflex, Lake Iliff and Lake Lenape.
Much of the area is rural. Houses sit on larger lots, firewood is easy to come by, and a wood stove is often the main source of heat and not a weekend extra. A stove burning around the clock for months produces far more creosote than an occasional fireplace fire, especially when it is damped down overnight.
For that kind of use, a yearly sweep is the minimum. It also helps to burn wood that has been split and dried for at least six months, since wet wood is the single biggest cause of heavy creosote.
